Team Trials Basics

A subsection of the Beginner's Guide.

Also see Team Trials.

The most important thing we must do after finishing several Careers is to update our Team Trials team. Team Trials is a permanent PvP gamemode where we use Veteran Umas to race against other players’ Veterans, and can be accessed by going to the Race tab in the Main Menu. Team Trials is a free and low-effort source of resources every week.

Team Rank

First of all, many forms of content are locked behind our Team Trial Team Rank. We can increase our Team Rank by entering the Team Trials Menu, and clicking Edit Team. From there, we can replace the default Veterans with our newly created Veterans. Slotting in our new Veterans will raise our Team Rank, rewarding Carats and unlocking new content.

We can unlock Daily Races at E Rank, and Clubs at E3 Rank. Both of these contents are important, and it’s beneficial to unlock them as fast as possible.

Team Races

When we first enter the menu, the second and third row of the Team is locked. These rows can be unlocked by raising our Team Trials Class. This is done by returning to the Team Trials menu, and entering Team Race. From there, we will see 3 opponents.

Matchups in Team Trials

Generally speaking, the top opponent will be someone above our Team Trials Team Ranking, the middle will be someone around our Ranking, and the bottom will be someone below our Ranking. It is recommended to always select the top option, as it will result in the most points.

Each Team Race costs one RP, which regenerates every hour and a half.

Each Race will reward us with points based on the performance of our Veterans. It is not consequential if we lose the Team Race, as long as we get enough points to promote to the next Class.

Class Promotion

As long as our score is above the Promotion Line, we will advance to the next Class at the weekly reset, which takes place at 15:00 UTC on Mondays. This is equivalent to 8:00AM PST and 11:00AM EST, or 7:00AM PDT and 10:00AM EDT. If we are above the Retention Line but below the Promotion Line, we will retain our Class. Finally, if we are below the Retention Line, we will demote a Class.

The first time we promote between Classes, we will receive Carats as a one-time Promotion reward. If we retain our Class, promote to a Class we have promoted to previously, or demote a Class, we will receive a smaller Carat and Friend Point reward every Monday reset.

Because the weekly Carat reward increases with our Class, we want to prioritize filling out our Team to promote as fast as possible.

Retention rewards (awarded weekly, every Monday):

Progressing your TT roster

At Class 2, you will unlock a second row of slots for your team.

At Class 3, the final row of slots of the team will unlock.

At the beginning, it is sufficient to auto-select the team and have the game fill out the roster for you. If you are clearing unique careers as recommended previously, the simple existence of any Veterans on the team will increase the points you get and help you progress to the next class and ranks.

As your account grows you will eventually make it a mid-term goal to fill out the Team with Uma running in their preferred distances. As a new player with only 1 and 2* Umas, there are very limited ways that our Veterans can be distributed to fill Distances that fit their Aptitudes. Here is an example:

Sprint: Sakura Bakushin O, King Halo

  • A recommended third slot is Air Groove. However, because Air Groove is C Sprint, Sprint Parents will have to be used to bring her Sprint Aptitude up.

Mile: Vodka, Daiwa Scarlet, Grass Wonder

Medium: Agnes Tachyon, Winning Ticket, Nice Nature, Mejiro Ryan

Long: Super Creek, Gold Ship, Mayano Top Gun, Matikanefukukitaru

Dirt: Haru Urara, El Condor Pasa

  • There is no good third slot out of 1 and 2* Umas for Dirt. The most usable option is Mayano Top Gun, but as she is Dirt E, it will take effort to bring her up to Dirt A.

Inevitably you will gather a few 3* Umas from the free guaranteed 3* Uma tickets you receive as a new player. To know which slot would be appropriate for that Uma, you can check their preferred racing distance by going into their details page.

Uma Aptitudes to Team Trial Slots

Uma Aptitudes to Team Trial Slots

With the goal of filling out every slot suitably, Uma with one distance aptitude should be added first. Then you can fill in remaining slots with Uma with multiple distance aptitudes who are flexible and can be used for many roles.

Eventually you’ll progress to the point where you’ll want every slot to have unique running styles while still fulfilling distance requirements! That’s a bit into the future though. When you are ready for that, check out our Team Trials guide!
