Virgo Cup

Virgo Cup, or the 17th Champions Meeting (CM17), takes place on the Oi 2000m Track. This CM is based on the JBC Classic.

Acceleration

The Oi 2000m Track has similar Acceleration conditions to most other Medium CMs: late-race starts on the 3rd Corner. Acceleration inherits such as Angling and Scheming, Let's Pump Some Iron!, and Moving Past, and Beyond are effective. These will be the primary Acceleration Skills Front Runners, Late Surgers, and End Closers will fight for. The Final Corner is much further out, so Red Shift/LP1211-M, Shooting for Victory!, and Budding Blossom should not be taken.

Nimble Navigator is a complementary Accel Skill useful to all Uma besides Front Runners. However, unless you are training in Unity Cup, it is recommended to acquire this Skill via Inheritance because Deck space is expensive in Grand Concert. This also applies to the Gold version, No Stopping Me!.

Dirt CMs also have a few Accels players normally won’t see on Turf. Got the Spirit!/ Be the Center!, Forward, March!/ Lead the Charge!, and Rapid Gain can be considered if a player chances upon them via random Race Hints or Character Events. These Skills aren’t high priority purchases especially because they have fully random activations in the late-race - nonetheless, they could help round out an Uma’s build if they otherwise lack Accel.

TIP

The Final Corner of this track lies beyond the Acceleration Zone, so any Accel Skills activating in this section is typically wasted. However, the Skill Forward, March! has a unique secondary effect that makes it a more appealing option for reasons besides Acceleration: The Skill contains a Lane Movement bonus. The Final Corner is where Uma attempt to change lanes, meaning Lane Movement bonus will provide the Uma significant forward Velocity in this section of the Track. This makes Forward, March! effective in two ways: if it procs early it is an effective Acceleration Skill, if it procs late it is a solid Velocity Skill.

Other style-specific complementary Accel Skills include Head-On/ Neck and Neck for Pace Chasers, Slick Surge/ On Your Left! for Late Surgers, and Take the Chance/ From the Brink for Late Surgers and End Closers. Second Wind is technically a viable complementary Accel for Front Runners, however the 2% HP Cost is often too steep a price for this CM when Stamina requirements are so strict.

Christmas Oguri Cap

Christmas Oguri Cap will appear frequently in this CM. Just like other tracks ranging from 1800m to 2200m, Christmas Oguri can get both a guaranteed Speed Carryover and Acceleration from Festive Miracle in the late-race through the use of Triple 7s.

TIP

Although occurring slightly later, U=ma2 is a reliable back-up proc for Christmas Oguri. It is recommended to take a total of four recoveries, two of them being Triple 7s and U=ma2, when training Christmas Oguri.

WARNING

Festive Miracle should not be Inherited, as the Inherited version will not Carryover into the late-race.

Velocity Skills

This CM doesn’t have any standout features which make particular Skills excel more than others. Any Velocity Skill, as long as it activates, will be generically useful.

WARNING

There are no Downhill or Uphill features on the Oi Racecourse. Skills with these conditions such as 1,500,000 CC and Wherever This Wonder Leads will not activate

Virgo Cup will be particularly harsh when it comes to Stamina. Since there are no Downhills on the Oi Racecourse, the Stamina normally saved from Downhill Mode does not happen. This will also be the first CM where we have access to the increased Speed cap which increases Stamina consumption, and the first Medium CM where Mystifying Murmur Uma have access to 564 Escapades. All these factors drive the Stamina goal up to 800 Stamina and at least 1 Gold Recovery Skill, or over 1000 raw Stamina.

TIP

800 Stamina + 1 Gold Recovery Skill, or 1000 raw Stamina, is enough Stamina for Uma to survive two direct hits of Mystifying Murmur. Trainers may adjust their Stamina up or down accordingly if they believe they may encounter more or less Stamina Debuffers.

WARNING

While tempting to reach for the new Speed cap of 1600 Speed, players should always ensure they have enough Stamina to finish the race. If it means you can reach your Stam goals, having 100-200 less points of Speed may be a necessary trade.

If possible, Uma should be trained in Grand Concert due to the higher average Skill Point gain and access to increased Speed Caps. Refer to our Grand Concert Guide for general Deck Advice!

Decks can vary greatly depending on the number of Stamina Sparks a player has in their Lineage. With a large amount of Stamina Sparks (greater than 12), players can use a 3SPD, 2WIT, palLight Hello Deck.

Note this Deck is unlikely to exceed 800 Stamina - thus it will only be effective if the Uma has a Gold Recovery Skill native to their kit, or a SPD Card which provides a Gold Heal is used. These Cards include:

  • speedTosen Jordan for Breath of Fresh Air
  • speedZenno Rob Roy for Lie in Wait
  • speedSilence Suzuka and speedMihono Bourbon for Trackblazer
  • speedAir Shakur for Serenity
  • or speedSpecial Week for Gourmand.

TIP

Although not directly via the Card’s events, the other speedSilence Suzuka also provides Trackblazer via Scenario Link in Grand Live.

WARNING

Moxie/ Restless, and After-School Stroll/ Go-Home Specialist do not work in this CM.

Players without enough Stamina Sparks or without easier access to a Gold Recovery Skill will need to use a Stamina Card in place of a Speed Card. staminaSuper Creek is the best option in this scenario, providing strong Stamina training and the ever-reliable Swinging Maestro.

WARNING

Due to the strict Stamina requirements, it is unlikely for a player to dedicate a Deck Slot to a Skill Card (a Card only useful for its Skills). An example of a Skill Card is powerDaiwa Scarlet and witYukino Bijin. They offer Neck and Neck and No Stopping Me! respectively, each of which are great Acceleration Skills. However, the loss in effectiveness in Training isn’t worth the upgrade from Head-On or Nimble Navigator, which can be acquired via Inheritance.

In light of the above, there are still some Style-specific Cards that offer both Skills and great Training value. Some examples include:

  • speedMaruzensky and speedSilence Suzuka for Front Runners.
  • speedAgnes Tachyon and witTokai Teio for Pace Chasers (although these Cards are powerful on all Uma)
  • speedZenno Rob Roy, witNice Nature, staminaIkuno Dictus, and witNakayama Festa for Late Surgers
  • witMr. C.B. for End Closers.

The dominating Uma for this CM is expected to be Christmas Oguri Cap due to the reliability of Festive Miracle.

It will be tough to compete with other Uma as many of Christmas Oguri’s direct competitors require significantly more effort to train to an effective level.

One such Uma is Copano Rickey. Her Unique Luck Runs My Way is a hybrid Velocity and Acceleration Skill if Copano Rickey possesses 6 Green Passive Skills. True to its name, Luck Runs My Way could randomly activate in such a way that it Carries Over its hybrid effect into the late-race, allowing her to compete with Christmas Oguri Cap. Unfortunately, the effort required to get 6 Green Passive Skills is quite steep, and ultimately Luck Runs My Way is a tough gamble that doesn’t guarantee victory. Copano Rickey can be trained, in order of difficulty and performance, as a Late Surger, Front Runner, and Pace Chaser.

Otherwise, any other Dirt-capable Uma will fare decently in this CM. Agnes Digital and Inari One are both easily trainable Uma, each possessing useful innate Gold and White Skills so players can focus their efforts on training Stats.

WARNING

Besides Christmas Oguri Cap, Pace Chasers are the only Style that do not have an accessible Acceleration Skill, thus will be the weakest Style this CM. To have reliable Accel, Pace Chasers may need to be trained with Angling and Scheming to compete for Pole Position, but this is fairly difficult against Copano Rickey and Smart Falcon.

Debuffers

With the introduction of 564 Escapades, Debuffers have become an effective means to increase the performance floor of your Uma.

Uma with Mystifying Murmur can completely deplete opponent HP which would remove them from the race. Normally, Mystifying Murmur has a low chance to activate due to the difficult Block requirement - but 564 Escapades can guarantee its activation.

Since 564 Escapades can ignore Skill activation conditions on the target Skill, Uma with Dominator can be equipped with Keen Eye for an additional late-race Velocity Debuff.
